This is a specialized sensor to use in tandem with electronic rev counters and Motogadget gauges. This sensor is attached to the spark plug wire (high tension cable) and provides the appropriate reference signal for the gauge every time the spark plug fires. Although this sensor will work with absolutely any ignition system, it is not necessary in most applications. The only ignition systems that require this type of sensor are CDI ignitions (capacitor discharge ignitions), magneto ignitions, or ignitions that don't have a way to get the signal from the coil. It features a direct and contact-less signal collection from the (high tension) ignition cable.
On bikes with CDI (capacitor discharge ignition) and other older ignitions (magneto), the spark signal is difficult to sense because they can be noisy but this little sensor solves that problem. However, in the case of regular transistorized or points ignition with negative signal (98% of regular street bikes have transistorized ignitions) this sensor is not necessary. The sensor is very easy to install and is attached to the spark plug wire with cable ties.
This device provides pulse reference to ground (-) when the spark plug fires, basically mimicking what happens in a transistor ignition or points ignition.
Size of the signal collector is approx. 1" x 1" or 25 mm x 25 mm, cable length is approx. 38" or 100 cm.
