Revival Homegrown

This homegrown comes out of Hartselle, Alabama, by the talented hands of Shad Alexander. ( salex13.sa on Instagram). Always liking the sound of Honda inline 4s, Shad knew he wanted a build with that tone. 

But it was more than just the chasing right sound that Alexander had in mind for this CB750. With frame modifications to accommodate a different tank and tail section and a full rewire with a mo.Unit Shad was also interested in aesthetics and reliability.

What was the donor bike, and what condition was it in to begin with?

This CB750 was not running.

When did you build the bike, and how long did it take?

2-year build.

What was the projected budget, and what was the final budget?

No budget. A lot, if you ask my wife.

What inspired the build, and what were the design influences?

Love the sound of Honda inline 4's, wanted one of my own. Just build what I like.

Please list the major modifications and fabrication completed.

The frame was modified for a different tank and tail section. Seat height raised 1 1/2". New custom shock mounts, new sheet metal cowl with frenched-in LED lights. Custom-made fenders and swingarm. Fuel cap and tank area reworked. Custom fabricated rearset mounts with custom-made shifter and kickstand, custom-made seat pan.

Please describe the engine work completed.

Complete rebuild with all new seals. Cylinders honed with new rings. Motor refinished and polished. Electronic ignition, CR29 carbs, and Delkevic exhaust installed.

Please list the additional components used.

GSXR600 front end, Motogadget controls and lights, Cognitomoto hubs, warp 9 elite wheels with Buchanan spokes. Brembo front and rear calipers. DYNO2000 ignition, motogadget mo.unit blue, Magura controls with hydraulic clutch, Rick's starter & rectifier/regulator, R1 rear sets with Rizoma pegs.

Did you farm out any of the work to third parties?

The motor was mechanically cleaned and polished by Saints Cycle Works in Chattanooga. Rod's Customs upholstered the seat. Everything else was made/built in my two-car garage.

What were the low points of the build?

Building a complete new wire harness and keeping all of it tucked underneath the tank, seat, and rear cowl. Finding enough time to complete the build.

What were the high points of the build?

The motor starting and the wiring all working on the first try. 1st ride is always a great feeling to ride something that you have envisioned and worked/built on for so long.

Now the build is finished, how satisfied are you with the results?

I'm Extremely pleased. The bike has great power, carburates perfectly, handles and brakes excellent. The riding position is very comfortable. The exhaust sound is awesome.

Are you planning any future builds?

Always.

Are you keeping the bike, or is it for sale?

Probably keep it, but everything has a price.
